What’s new in the paternity leave

The past month of April saw a number of developments in paternity leave. With the approval of Royal decree-law, this permission has been increased.

What is the duration of the paternity leave?

From April 1, 2019:

    • The permissions of paternity will be of eight weeks:
      the

        the

      • Six required (exactly as happens now with the maternity leave)
      • the

      • Two, voluntary
    • the

    • And the permissions of maternity, will stay the same: six weeks mandatory and ten voluntary
    • the

    • The mother can only give four weeks to the father. Until now, I could give her ten weeks voluntary.

This change is not final as it will be extended paternity leave during the following years to be equated with the permission of maternity in 2021.

  • Be afiliadosand in high-or in a situation assimilated in any regime of the Social Security system.
  • the

  • Have covered a minimum contribution period of:
    the

      the

    • 180 days within the 7 years immediately preceding the date of the commencement of any such suspension or permit, or, alternately,
    • the

    • 360 days throughout their working life prior to the said date

the paternity leave for self-employed persons

As for the rest of the workers there is no particularity. The paternity allowance will be equivalent to 100% of the regulatory base, which in the case of self-employed workers corresponds generally with the contribution base minimum. It is imperative to be abreast of payment of the contributions.
